Beyoncé kicked off her world tour in support of her country album, ‘Cowboy Carter’, last night. Opening at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, early footage and photos online showed a packed venue—despite widespread reports that ticket sales had been slow.
In the weeks leading up to the tour, many took to social media to mock Beyoncé for the unsold seats. However, fans were quick to defend her, pointing out that a similar situation occurred with her previous ‘Renaissance’ tour, which ultimately sold out and received widespread critical acclaim.
Judging by fan-recorded clips and social media posts, the show is another high-budget extravaganza, featuring a massive stage setup and eye-catching installations—including a gold bucking bronco during her performance of ‘Tyrant’ from the new album.
The parallels with her last tour don’t stop there: her eldest daughter, Blue Ivy, featured prominently in a dance sequence to her mother’s biggest hits, just as she has in the past. Segments from her previous tour were rehashed and given a ‘Cowboy Carter’ aesthetic during the show – ‘I’M THAT GIRL’, ‘COZY’ & ‘ALIEN SUPERSTAR’ – with the robotic arms and bed spread all in gold. Beyoncé also brought out her younger daughter, Rumi, during ‘Protector’.
Early reviews from those who attended have been overwhelmingly positive. One thing is clear—Beyoncé delivers a live show like no other and remains unmatched as a live performer.
